Cadio’s founders, Thaddeus Fulford-Jones and Eric Weiss, met while PhD candidates at MIT. Their combined backgrounds spanned several fields that would eventually be of direct relevance to Cadio – including expertise in signal processing, data mining, consumer marketing and wireless sensor networks.
Cadio’s founders observed that valuable GPS data from mobile devices was going unprocessed and unharnessed every single day. They realized that this data could be packaged and analyzed for national brands, market researchers, and advertisers. Their goal in founding Cadio was to provide new insights into consumers’ location-relevant lifestyles – but to do so in a way that protects consumer privacy, with individuals always in control of their data. In turn, these insights would empower corporate decision-makers to make better-informed choices about how to engage with mobile consumers.
Cadio saw success in the mobile track of the 2008 MIT $100k Entrepreneurship Competition and incorporated that same year. Following a period of development and a series of trials in the Boston Metro area and beyond, Cadio’s Lifestyle Inferences™ became commercially available for North America in March 2009.
